fall institute 2023 - Port Severn Ontario

Looking out the car window on the way to Muskoka cottage country was filled with the beauty of change. Fall colours were just beginning to tickle the trees from green to yellow, orange, and red and if this was any indication of the transformation that was about to occur for the 2023 GROWW Cohort, we were in for a treat.

Fall Change in Muskoka

The Fall Institute was held at Christie’s Mill Inn and Spa which sat on the shores of the Muskoka Lakes. It was the perfect secluded setting for learning, collaboration, and connection.

Trainees and faculty came from across Canada (and even Australia!) to gather and share foundational knowledge and methodology on Women’s and Girls’ health.

Where all the learning took place!

Over the course of 5 days, 9 sessions and 4 panel discussions were attended by both trainees and faculty with topics ranging from Life Course Epidemiology, Women’s Biology, through to Indigenous Health, Secondary Data Analysis, and Sexual Identity and Sexuality.

We even had the opportunity to cruise down the river and imagine what it would be like to live along it’s banks in the multi-million dollar homes. Dinner at Taboo Muskoka rounded out the adventure whilst watching the sunset on the lake.

By the end of the institute, working partnerships and more importantly, friendships were formed. The attendees were buzzing with excitement to create new projects, feeling more confident in their forward path, and excited about the next time that our paths would cross.
